FIFE College is set to get part of £140million in capital funding to improve its college facilities.

Finance Secretary John Swinney announced last week that the cash would be made available to create new learning campuses at both Fife and Forth Valley colleges, as part of an additional £1billion budgeted for infrastructure.

Fife College welcomed the budget announcement – but remained tight-lipped on whether the cash would enable it to move to a city-centre location in Dunfermline.

College principal and chief executive Hugh Logan said, “Fife College welcomes the Scottish Government’s commitment and support for a significant investment in improving our college campuses and in particular our learning campus in Dunfermline.

“The college’s estates strategy envisages a new-build campus in Dunfermline to be a key element of our long-term strategy for progressing opportunities for people in Fife and beyond.

“We look forward to working with the Scottish Futures Trust, the Scottish Funding Council, Fife Council and other strategic partners to ensure that we provide the best possible facilities for our learners across Fife.

“This commitment is particularly fitting as Dunfermline looks forward to Andrew Carnegie Day, as this will provide a significant boost to the town’s capacity to carry forward his legacy.

“Work has already started to look at options for development in Dunfermline and this work will continue so that the project can be delivered as soon as practicable.” He continued, “This funding news for the west of Fife complements the work we are doing in the east to create new training opportunities with the development of a new Fife College Levenmouth Campus opening in Buckhaven in summer 2016.

“We also remain committed to upgrading and developing facilities at our St Brycedale Campus in Kirkcaldy and Stenton Campus in Glenrothes.”
