THE WOMEN of the Dunfermline Boots store in the Kingsgate have managed to raise more than £1500 for Macmillan Cancer Support with a special charity calendar.

Duty manager Nan Anderson (58), from Cairneyhill, came up with the idea and she quickly managed to gather together a group of brave volunteers to get in front of the camera and give their best pose.

“Everyone was so enthusiastic – they really surprised me,” said Nan, admitting that she wasn’t sure if her colleagues would go for the idea.

“There was a competition for selling No7 serum and I said if we win the prize, we should do something special for charity.

“I suggested a Calendar Girls idea and to my surprise they all said yes.

“We ended up selling so much of the serum and even outsold the Trafford Centre in Manchester and won £1000, so we did the calendar. But there’s nothing smutty, we’re all covered up!” The 14 women, ranged between 18 and 60 in age, stayed behind one day after work to do the shoot, with one colleague’s husband providing the photography.

“We had a super time,” said Nan. “It was a great laugh and the security asked us the next day what had been going on!” The women have had support from everyone – from their families to the printer who offered to do the calendars for half-price because the funds were going to Macmillan.

“With the initial run of 150 calendars gone already, Nan and her colleagues are looking to sell another batch and raise even more money.

“We’re really pleased,” she said.

“They look super and it’s for such a good cause – we’re chuffed to bits.

“They cost £10 and all the profits are going to Macmillan. Even the photographer didn’t ask for a fee – the only cost is getting them printed.” The experience has been both fun and uplifting for the women and Nan is proud at how her colleagues rose to the challenge.

“It was fabulous,” she said.

“The enthusiasm they all jumped in with deserves a big pat on the back.”
