A NEW scheme aiming to help people get active and back into work has launched in Dunfermline.

The first discounted gym membership in Fife is aimed exclusively at helping people in the city and surrounding areas.

The scheme recognises the challenges faced by those trying to find a job and aims to boost people’s confidence and motivation to help make them feel at their best while job-hunting.

Daytime Active is a £10 monthly pass which allows access to 12 fitness centres across Fife. It has been designed to give jobseekers all the benefits of an active lifestyle.

The programme is being delivered by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust at Jobcentres in Dunfermline and other Fife areas and is open to those claiming jobseeker’s allowance and employment support allowance.

It gives unlimited access, seven days a week between 10am and 3pm to get active in the Trust’s gyms and swimming pools.

Ed Watson, chief executive for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust said, “There is lots of evidence to show that getting more active more often improves motivation, self-confidence and quality of life.

“All these benefits are especially important if you are trying to feel your best when accessing the job market.” Councillor Mark Hood, Fife Council executive committee member, added, “This is a fantastic scheme that will do a lot towards widening access to gym memberships for people on low incomes.

“Tackling the inequalities faced by those in poverty is a big priority for Fife Council. Along with the support from Jobcentres to boost people’s chances of getting back into the workplace, this arrangement means that many jobseekers will still be able to afford membership at their local leisure centre.” For further details visit www.fifeleisure.org.uk.
