SCOTTISH Water’s month-long work near the Jet garage on Bothwell Street in Dunfermline looks set to continue with drivers having to contend with cones and barriers for a little longer.

A small section of the southbound lane of the dual carriageway has been cordoned off since the end of November, forcing traffic to merge into one lane. In a statement, Scottish Water said, “Investigation works are currently under way to locate a suspected blockage or collapse in the sewer at this location on Bothwell Street.

“CCTV work is scheduled to take place to find where the problem section of sewer is located.

“We have conducted extensive work to unblock the sewer by conventional means but these efforts have not yielded any results.

“We aim to have the collapse located and digging work planned in for the end of the week.

"We will endeavour to cause as little impact as possible on motorists using this busy thoroughfare.

“We want to apologise to road users and local people for the time taken to complete this work – we aim to get it right first time and perform a solid repair that will avoid similar disruption in the future.”
