REUBEN’S Cafe and Wine Store has been nominated in the best independent eatery category of the Scottish Independent Retailers Awards.

The business, based in Dunfermline’s New Row, is among a number of West Fife firms hoping for glory at Sunday’s ceremony at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

A spokesman for Reuben’s said, “We are delighted to be nominated for this award.

“We’ve worked hard to establish Reuben’s as a quality food and drink destination in Dunfermline.

“We opened five years ago and each year have grown and developed what we do. Thanks to all our customers and supporters it’s been great fun.” Reuben’s is one of seven firms in the south-east section of the best independent eatery category and a number of other Dunfermline businesses are also in the running for awards.

Premier Stores is vying to be the top convenience store, Thomas Johnston is competing to be best butcher, RC Ferguson is in the florist of the year category, Dedicaked is up for baker of the year, Kingdom Fish is up against Inverkeithing’s HS Murray for fishmonger of the year and Broomhead Garage is in the best garage category.

There are two Dunfermline firms vying for hair and beauty retailer of the year, with Innovate Hair Salon and Munroe’s Hairdressing and Beauty both shortlisted. Spex Direct will hope to win service provider of the year and Thomson’s World of Furniture is up for furniture store of the year. Voted for by the public, the awards highlight the value of independent retailers to the communities they serve and recognise the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen they bring. Irfan Younis, of event organisers Creative Oceanic, said, “We have had a fantastic response from the public and we are excited to welcome dedicated independent retailers in a celebration of their hard work.

“We would like to wish all the finalists the best of luck.”
