The Dunfermline church’s knit and crochet-a-thon saw around 70 people getting the needle from 9am to 9pm in aid of the Simpson Memorial Box Appeal (SiMBA), Edinburgh Royal Infirmary’s Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health and the Special Care Baby Unit at the Victoria Hospital.

Among the clothing produced were hats for newborn and premature babies, cardigans, mitts and bootees, while items have continued to roll in from members of the West Fife public who were unable to attend the event at the church in Allan Crescent.

Reverend Elizabeth Fisk said, “There was always someone knitting but between the hours of 9am-4pm it was buzzing. We have a craft group at the church and we’d heard about SiMBA so we decided that we wanted to do something to help them, and we couldn’t leave out Fife so we asked the Victoria Hospital if we could do something for them too.

“It brought so many people together and I was surprised by how many people attended - we had people asking us if we would be having another one!

“We had a great response and we still had items being handed in the next day.

“We’ve agreed to be a drop off point for SiMBA if people want to continue to knit for them and we will ensure that items are delivered to them. We’re looking to hold another event next year and do it on an annual basis from now on.”
