The Friends of Pittencrieff Park opened the eagerly-anticipated facility at the Nethertown Broad Street entrance last Wednesday with help from Milesmark, St Leonard’s and Pittencrieff primary school pupils alongside Councillor Helen Law, who cut the ribbon.

Harry Dunn, chairman of the Friends, said, “The opening ceremony for the new playpark went very well and was blessed with a really nice and sunny afternoon.

“We commenced the playpark project in October 2012 and in spite of delays and access problems resultant from the major flood prevention scheme, we had always remained confident that it would be achieved.

“The purpose of the project had been twofold - firstly we wanted to provide improved and attractive play facilities with equipment suitable for young children to have fun and enjoy. Secondly, with the planting of suitable bushes, the landscaping of the surrounding ground and the Lawyers’ Orchard which was planted a couple of years ago, we hoped to make this somewhat-overlooked area of Pittencrieff Park an attractive destination for families to visit while their children played safely nearby.

“Around 60 people attended the opening and I thanked Fife Council employees for all their assistance and support in making the new playpark possible. Equal thanks goes to the funders, from the Fife Environment Trust to the generous contributions from the Dunfermline public.”
