TWO DUNFERMLINE streets will have extra restrictions imposed after “abuse of space” by drivers.

Both James Street and Inglis Street will have traffic regulation orders (TROs) introduced, costing around £2500, after the City of Dunfermline area committee agreed to back the plans.

James Street forms part of a bus interchange and has a “vital” loading/unloading area for local businesses between the footway and bus layby. Some businesses expressed concerns over abuse of the space by drivers parking to visit the city centre as the current restrictions do not allow the council to issue tickets for vehicles left in this location.

To ensure the local businesses can use the designated loading area as intended, the TRO will allow the area to be enforced as a loading bay and parking enforcers will be able to take action against drivers who leave their vehicles there and impact on the businesses’ operation.

Inglis Street currently has a loading ban for its entire length with the exception of a short space to allow loading outside a glazier business. However the markings were not as clear as the committee would like and they heard that there was a “degree of abuse” within the area, impacting upon businesses’ opportunity to load and unload.

The TRO will introduce a loading bay outside the glaziers, still allowing the businesses to facilitate loading but allowing the council to better manage the space.
