Yorkshire Building Society’s Hour of Need campaign has been celebrating its first birthday with the news that it has clocked up £300,000 in its first year.

The campaign was launched in June 2014 and has raised enough to support 15,000 hours of Marie Curie nursing in just 12 months. Every £20 raised by the Society funds one hour of Marie Curie nursing care.

Thanks to the efforts of colleagues and the support of customers and members of the public in Dunfermline, the branch has collected more than £550 for the charity.

The celebratory tea party at Yorkshire Building Society, on High Street, took place last Wednesday, with colleagues serving cream teas to customers.

Commitment Catherine Campbell, manager of the Dunfermline branch, said, “The Hour of Need campaign is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families in providing Marie Curie nursing support.

“This is the Society’s most successful ever national fund-raising campaign and this is all thanks to the commitment that our colleagues and members have shown in helping to raise £300,000 for Marie Curie.” The tea party was also backed by the Cream Tea Society, jam-maker Tiptree and Cornish clotted cream manufacturer Rodda’s, who donated 15,000 portions of strawberry jam and clotted cream to the Society’s 230 branches to help celebrate the success of the fund-raising.
