A DUNFERMLINE student who went to parent and kids days at Motorola with his dad has been awarded a top prize in electrical and electronic engineering.

Fraser Coutts (22), who attended Cairneyhill Primary and Queen Anne High School before going on to study at Strathclyde University, picked up the Magnus MacLean medal for being the top ranked performer in his masters course.

After graduating with a distinction, Fraser will now go on to do a PhD next year, fully funded by the Andrew Carnegie Trust.

Proud “There’s quite a few good people on that course so I’m quite proud and grateful to my supervisor and lecturers who helped a lot,” he said of the achievement. “Electrical engineering is something I’ve always wanted to do. My dad used to work at Motorola and I remember going along to parents and kids days and seeing all the different types of engineering, so it must have started back then!

“I’m starting my PhD in October in a similar field with some of the same people so I’m really excited. I’m also very grateful to my parents for all their support.”
