ANOTHER store has been caught out by the ‘Ringing the Changes’ scam, with staff at B&Q in Dunfermline duped on Saturday.

Police said a man had gone into the store and asked to change money, from one denomination of notes to another. During the transaction, he deliberately used distraction and confusion tactics and left with more cash than he should have.

A police spokesman asked retailers to be suspicious of any customer requesting large denomination notes to be changed, or who wishes to cancel transactions once cash is on the counter.

He added, “Ultimately, if you have any doubts or suspicions, refuse the request.”
