A CRAFT beer and food festival with offerings from the son of Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant is set to take Dunfermline by storm this weekend.

The street food and craft beer festival, hosted by PJ Molloys, will take place on Saturday with organisers hoping that bringing a flavour of similar events held in other parts of the UK to the city will be a hit with thirsty and hungry punters.

Beer from breweries including Brewdog, Drygate and Beavertown – the successful micro-brewery of Logan Plant – will be on offer along with food from Charlestown-based Wild Rover Food and Glasgow firm Bowl Food, who specialise in gourmet products such as curries and stews.

The free event, which runs from 12-6pm in the car park of PJ Molloys, is suitable for all ages and also includes live music from acts including Neil Philp, Dougie McFarlane and Jason Brand, and kids’ entertainment, including a bouncy castle.

Calum Miller, of PJ Molloys, said, “I’ve been going to similar events in London and Glasgow for a while and there is definitely a street food and craft beer revolution taking place. I think that the event has got legs; it can grow in the next couple of years if we can bring a little bit of it to Dunfermline and get people interested.

“I’m really excited because we’ve got a good range of craft beers. Beavertown has grown massively and it is difficult to get their products because they sell out as soon as they come off the production line, and we’ve got a big range of Brewdog beers too. We’ve also got a brewery from Edinburgh called Crafty Brew coming – they’re a ‘brew it yourself’ one where you go in and, under supervision, brew your own beer and get it three weeks later. They’ll be teaching people about brewing beer and have a core range of five themselves for people to try. We’ve also got a gin and tonic bar as there’s been a bit of a revolution in gin as well, so we thought why not include it?

“There’s definitely a good vibe to it and I’m sure that if we get good weather, people will really enjoy it.” Also taking place on a packed Saturday of events in Dunfermline is a performance from the 100-strong Pipes and Drums of Canada, who will march from outside the Kingsgate Centre at 11am to Pittencrieff Park before holding a free performance outside Pittencrieff House Museum.
