AN INVERKEITHING High School pupil who recorded her debut album in her bedroom is getting ready for her launch night at the Fire Station Creative.

Amy-Louise Rogers, 16, of Ezdell Way, started working on the project last December and, after getting her exams out the way, she has now put the finishing touches on the record, titled 'Her Imagination.'

Although she's had to juggle making music with school work, Amy-Louise is proud of what her efforts have produced.

"I constructed it after study leave as my exams were all at the start and I had about three weeks off," she said. "I just sat and recorded and edited it in my bedroom. It was like my relief after the exams! I really have to look at and and think, 'I made this thing!'

"I used to do a lot of musical theatre and then I moved out of that and listened more to lots of singer-songwriters and began to develop my own style.

"The album is all original material and a lot of it was originally guitar-based, but there's also piano and tuned percussion and drums in there. It's that sort of singer-songwriter, acoustic style.

"It covers lots of things, from those cliche relationship break-up songs to songs about struggling and coping with school. It's quite relatable and all my friends are very supportive. They listen to it and know the words which is nice."

With the launch night set to take place this evening, Amy-Louise is looking forward to showcasing her sound to more people.

"I'm really excited, it's already available on Spotify and iTunes so this is the launch of the physical copy," she said. "Originally I was going to launch it at Abbot House as I did my first gig there and I was going to come back full circle but then it closed at the end of July. I have a friend who works closely with Abbot House and the Fire Station Creative and he nudged me in that direction! I sent an email and went for lunch to have a conversation and 20 minutes later it was planned and sorted."

The S5 pupil is now doing her Highers, including music, and although making it big is her dream she's also got alternatives up her sleeve.

"I've got quite a few teachers on board who are supportive," she said. "Ideally I'd like to go into music but I've got a back-up plan of being a music teacher!"

Amy-Louise, supported by three local music acts, will be performing at 7pm on Saturday, September 26 at the Fire Station Creative. Tickets costs £3 and are available at the door.
