PUPILS at Inverkeithing Primary School are celebrating their new £12,000 playground with the opening of trim trails.

The equipment was installed to support the children to have healthier and happier playtimes and includes trim trails in the infant and upper playgrounds as well as a sandpit and magnifying posts for scientific work. Last Wednesday was the official opening and local councillors Lesley Laird and Dave Dempsey were on hand at the launch, while headteacher Caroline Gardiner also thanked Alice McGarry and Gavin Yates for their help and support in securing the funding.

“The children are thoroughly enjoying being able to use the equipment and it allows them to develop their physical skills as well as promoting good sharing and relationships with their classmates,” she said.

The project came about thanks to the school’s hardworking PTA group which raised money through charity events like Christmas and summer fayres to start the first phase of outdoor improvements.

“The PTA group is very proactive at Inverkeithing Primary School and we are very grateful for all the hard work and enthusiasm they put into supporting the school financially,” added Mrs Gardiner. “The children all really enjoy the events the PTA organise for them and we are very grateful to the children’s families and wider community for supporting us so generously in our fundraising efforts.

“We were also extremely grateful to our local councillors for approving £5000 worth of funding from the council’s locality budget to support the school community. Our four councillors are very supportive of the school and often give up their time to attend parent council meetings and community meetings. Their match funding has meant our playground improvement project has got off to a flying start!”
