INVERKEITHING residents – get involved and help attract up to £1million of investment into your town!

Fife Council and Fife Historic Buildings Trust are inviting families to take part in a survey to support a major bid for town centre funding.

Local input is needed to back applications to the Historic Environment Scotland Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) and the Heritage Lottery Fund Townscape Heritage (TH) in August and September.

If successful, this could attract up to £1 million of investment, which could be used to deliver a five-year town centre regeneration project.

This would include investing in key civic buildings – the Friary and the Town house – and bringing underused historic spaces back into use, undertaking repairs to and restoration of older buildings; improvements to the streetscape/public realm; and a small repair grants scheme to help owners improve traditional buildings in the town centre.

The project also aims to increase appreciation of Inverkeithing’s rich history, encourage participation in heritage activities and provide training in traditional building skills and techniques.

There may also be investment in visitor trails and area promotion.

Inverkeithing councillor Lesley Laird, who is also Fife Council depute leader and spokesperson for economy and planning, urged residents and property owners to take part in the survey.

She said: “We’re keen to reach as many people as possible so it’s really important that we get input from as many people as we can from the local community.

“We need to show potential funders that local people support the scheme so please make sure you give us your views.”

Residents can get involved at a public drop-in event at the Friary on Tuesday, July 19, between 4pm and 7pm.

This will be an opportunity to discuss the options for future development of the Friary and Town House buildings with the project team.

The survey can be completed online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Inverkeithing and will be available throughout July 2016.

Copies of the survey are also available at Inverkeithing Civic Centre reception. Completed forms can be handed in at the centre and at the drop-in event.
