A Royal Navy Reservist from West Fife has been presented with a top award for her achievements in training.

Able Rate Jodie McSkimmings, 26, completed a course at the Defence Maritime Logistics School, based at HMS Raleigh, and passed with an overall course mark of 98 per cent.

The former Inverkeithing High School pupil earned the Inchcape Trophy after coming through an intensive 12 days on the first professional logistics career course undertaken by Royal Naval Reserve logisticians.

Jodie said: “This award was not something I had heard of and it did come as a very pleasant surprise when I realised I was to receive it. "Completing my basic training at HMS Raleigh was tough, but very rewarding.

"For my logistics training I was made class leader.

"Since then I have completed various other courses, my first military exercise and qualified as an endurance training leader.”

Her citation for the award reads: “Impressing from the outset, McSkimming took an extremely proactive approach to the course, completing all of the online pre-course learning and documentation in a timely manner and ahead of the deadlines set by her instructor.

"Engaging fully in classroom activity, she demonstrated a willingness to learn and quickly became a key member of the class.

"Steadily growing in confidence throughout the course, she was always willing to engage in discussion, demonstrate her knowledge and contribute to the success of the course.”

After joining up in 2014, Jodie became a full-time member of the HMS Scotia Royal Navy Reserve unit in August 2015.

Previously she worked as a payroll and accounts administrator. Her father, Michael, is a former Royal Navy diver.
