FIFE Council are working on new bids for over £3million of funding to regenerate Inverkeithing.

And they want local residents to have their say on the latest proposals on Thursday.

Councillor Alice McGarry, convener of the South West Fife area committee, said: “I’d urge local people to come along to the Civic Centre to see how the plans for the town are progressing.

“Your input will help the project team to complete the proposals in the bid for heritage funding.

“This will kick start improvement and investment in the town.

“It’s really important that we get feedback from the local community because we need to show potential funders that local people are supportive.”

The aim is to improve the “built heritage of the area”, the key civic buildings and assets such as the Town House, the Friary Hospitium and Friary Gardens, to showcase their heritage and generate income to protect their future as important parts of the community.

It’s also hoped a small repair grants scheme will help owners improve traditional buildings in the town centre and deliver education and training activities such as traditional building skills.

Applications made last year to the Historic Environment Scotland Conversation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) and Heritage Lottery Fund Town Scape Heritage were unsuccessful.

However, Fife Council have committed £430,000 and have been encouraged to submit fresh bids for funding.

If the new applications are successful, a five year built heritage programme for Inverkeithing town centre would start in April 2019.

Cllr McGarry added: “Work needs to continue over the coming months and years to develop and implement the plans.

“The information and drop-in session will be an opportunity for people to help shape what happens in their local area.”

The session on Thursday is open between 2.30pm and 8pm and will give locals the opportunity to look at the plans on display and give their suggestions.
