A FORMER Inverkeithing High School teacher has agreed to be struck off the teaching register after admitting communicating with a pupil over social media.

Chemistry teacher Scott Davidson engaged in conversations of a personal nature with an S4 pupil over social media between February 6 and February 28, 2015.

During these conversations, he provided his personal email address to the young person.

While employed by Fife Council as a teacher at Lochgelly High School, he also, between June and September 2016, failed to adhere to a management instruction by having inappropriate contact and communication with pupils in his classroom and outwith class times.

This was when he was subject to a final written warning. He also failed to adhere to a management instruction which stated that he must not have any involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

As a result of the offences, it was ruled by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) that his fitness to teach had been impaired.

Mr Davidson was issued with a Removal with Consent Order by the GTCS after he had indicated to them he wished to be removed from the teaching register.

He will now be prohibited from applying for restoration to that Register for a period of two years.

Fife Council’s head of education, Peter McNaughton, said: “As a responsible employer, we don’t discuss the individual circumstances of any current or former employees.”
