A TEENAGE girl smashed the window of an ambulance which had been called to her help her after she took an overdose.

Charmaine Knowles, 18, formerly of Inverkeithing and now of Valley Gardens, Kirkcaldy, appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after admitting a string of offences.

On August 31, 2016, at Fraser Avenue, Inverkeithing, she assaulted a police constable by punching her on the body.

On February 19, at Fraser Avenue, she maliciously punched the rear window of an ambulance, smashing it.

She also admitted that on the same day, at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, she assaulted a police constable by attempting to bite her on the body.

She further admitted failing to appear at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for hearings on June 15 and October 5 last year.

On July 7, at Fraser Avenue, Inverkeithing, she behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting and swearing and struggling with two people.

Depute fiscal Jane Rennie said of the February offence: “At around midnight, a call was received by the ambulance service to say a female had taken an overdose.

“An ambulance attended and made contact with the accused. The police had attended the area in connection with another matter.

“The accused then walked behind the ambulance and punched the rear window, smashing it.
“Later, when she was in a police van at Victoria Hospital, she attempted to bite the police constable. The cost of repair to the ambulance was £289.92.”
Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “She had taken an overdose. She entirely accepts the ambulance was there to help her.”
Sheriff Charles MacNair imposed a community payback order with 295 hours of unpaid work. He also imposed a four-month restriction of liberty order.
