AN INVERKEITHING woman is claiming the derelict school next door is attracting rats and mice.
Davina Louch (67), of Church Street, told the Press she had been experiencing problems with vermin recently as the former Inverkeithing Primary School, off Roods Road, remained an empty shell with overgrown garden.
Mrs Louch said, "I have lived here for about 40 years and now I have mice and rats.
"The school has been closed for around eight years.
"I have been to my councillor, environmental health twice and nobody seems to interested in helping.
"Three young boys were on the roof the other day and it seems like it is going to take one of them to fall and kill themselves before someone does something about it.
"It's obviously dangerous. The garden has been left to grow and one community councillor has said that there are manholes in the area - someone could fall down and at least break a leg.
"The community council said nothing could be done because the council had sold it.
"The vermin wasn't here before so they are obviously here because of how rundown the school is." In 2008, developer Andrail Limited bought the property and have plans to convert the building into 42 flats.
The developer's agent was contacted but were unable to release a statement before our print deadline.
The council advises anyone who has problems with vermin to contact their Pest Control Team.
They have also advised Mrs Louch and anyone else who has safety concerns to contact their building standards and safety team on 03451 55 11 22.
