POLICE are still hunting the commuter who carried out a violent assault that left a Dunfermline passenger, commuting by train from Haymarket to Inverkeithing, requiring hospital treatment for facial injuries and a broken nose.

British Transport Police are investigating the assault that took place around 8.15pm on 1st September when the 58-year-old victim was boarding the 8.18pm train. The victim was punched several times to the head and was knocked to the ground by a man he appeared to be exchanging words with in the station.

Another passenger had to pull the suspect from the victim and both men got off the train, which was the 11.25am Plymouth to Dundee service, at Inverkeithing train station shortly after 8.30pm.

The victim was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment. The attacker is described as being about 5ft 10in, of a slim build, with short fair hair and was wearing a maroon football top.

CCTV footage is being reviewed by officers.

Constable Thomas Ashman, the officer in charge of the inquiry, said, “My information is that the man suspected of the assault is a regular commuter to and from Inverkeithing and therefore I believe he resides in the town.”
