BROADBAND which goes “on and off like a yo-yo” is leaving Inverkeithing residents hacked off – with one fed-up web-surfer throwing his laptop out the window in frustration.

Spencerfield resident Michael Clinton (57) has slammed mobile network operator EE and BT after putting up with months of little or no broadband in the neighbourhood, making it difficult to pay bills online or send e-mails.

He claimed that after carrying out a speed test, he discovered he was receiving just 0.01Mbit/s fixed-line residential speed – a fraction of Ofcom’s reported UK average of 17.8Mbit/s.

Last month, the Press told you how an unhappy Rosyth web user is still waiting on faster internet after claiming he was ‘fleeced’ into taking out another contract with BT.

And Mr Clinton, of St Peter’s Court, says “the whole of Spencerfield” has the same problem.

The EE customer said, “I’m disabled so the only way I can talk to friends or make contact is online.

“I’ve had the problem for the last couple of months, my speed’s dropped from 14Mbit/s to 0.01Mbit/s.

“You’re paying £25-30 a month for it, but nobody’s getting anything they’ve paid for. I’ve seen somebody throw his laptop out the window, he was so frustrated.

“You can’t do any banking, e-mail or communicate with anyone.

“My mum ended up with bank charges of £6 because we couldn’t get online to transfer from one account to another.

“I’ve changed my router twice, my filters 19 times in two months, my cables and even ended up buying a new laptop, but it’s still the same.

“I’ve tried calling EE but the only way you get to talk to anyone is if you say you want to cancel it.

“I even sent them a recorded delivery letter and never got a response. I would have e-mailed them if I could have got online.

“But every time I say, ‘Right, just cancel it’, there’s a miracle – the speed jumps back up!” An EE spokesperson told the Press, “We have worked with our broadband partner to diagnose and repair the fault in Mr Clinton’s line and he is now experiencing full service again. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
