INVERKEITHING Primary pupils said so long, farewell as they marked the retirement of one of the school’s popular teachers after 25 years service.

Janette Vogel, who taught primary 3/4, is set to enjoy doing some more of her favourite things after leaving the school last week, where she was shocked with a surprise assembly with pupils performing ‘So Long, Farewell’ from the Sound of Music on Thursday.

It marked a double celebration for Janette as she turned 60 the previous day, and she said that she was overwhelmed by the send-off from staff and pupils that celebrated her love of Switzerland.

She said, “I usually go to Switzerland on holiday because my husband’s family are from there. We go skiing but in the summer time we like to go there walking, so I think that I will spend more time there now I’ve retired. It was quite overwhelming – it was a fantastic performance and I didn’t know anything about it. Every child in the school performed and it was just fantastic.

“I’ve been here since 1990 and I’ve taught in every stage at the school. I can’t pick out a particular highlight, but I would say teaching the children of former pupils is a bit special. I’m looking forward to relaxing but I would just like to say a massive thanks to all the staff and all the pupils at the school who have been great.”
