VOLUNTEERS from Deep Sea World made a tidy start to 2015 by taking part in a series of beach cleans and litter picks.

Members of staff joined a number of other volunteers on Sunday 4th January to take part in an above and below the waterline clean-up at Inverkeithing’s Preston Hill Quarry.

Organised by the Marine Conservation Society, the group filled more than 20 bags with litter and a number of other items including bikes, a toilet, a large cupboard, several sets of doors and windows, odd shoes and a large amount of cable and wire.

Deep Sea World’s Natalie Walls said, “I was genuinely shocked by the amount of waste and litter we were able to collect in a relatively short time. We definitely left the site looking considerably cleaner than when we arrived and all the litter is being sifted through and, wherever possible, getting recycled.” Visitors to the aquarium are also being invited to get in on the act by volunteering to join in with the beach clean events.
