TWO Scotmid workers from Inverkeithing braved the icy waters of the Forth last Saturday in a bid to raise £1000 for charity.

Eileen Collins (56) and Caitlin McQuade (24), who both work at the High Street store, decided to support Scotmid’s sponsored charity, Anthony Nolan. On Saturday morning, they dressed up in Wonder Woman costumes before racing into the water at Port Laing for a chilly dip!

“It was freezing!” said Eileen. “We decided not to test how cold it was, we just ran in and dived under and swam about for a bit. It was like jumping into ice water. Caitlin wanted to do a sponsored walk at first and then I said, ‘Why not jump in the Forth?’ and it went from there. Both our families were there to support us and a lot of people from the shop too. My grandson is only four and he’s always at the sailing club and they came around on a boat to cheer us on!” The women are well on their way to their £1000 target, with £800 already collected and money still coming in from collection buckets at the tills.

“We’re still getting money so we’re hoping to get to £1000,” said Eileen. “We’re quite chuffed with what we’ve done so far. Scotmid supports a different charity every year and this year it’s Anthony Nolan.

“We want to thank all the people who supported us and donated money. Now we need to think of what we can do next!”
