TRIBUTES have been paid to Inverkeithing grandad Wayne Strickland who sadly died in an accident on the M8 yesterday (Monday).

At around 8.50am, a Peugeot 206, Kia Rio, Mercedes van and an articulated HGV were all involved in the collision at Junction 3 near Livingston, resulting in the motorway being closed in both directions for almost eight hours.

Police Scotland confirmed that Mr Strickland (49) died at the scene while the occupants of the other vehicles were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

Police are investigating the full circumstances of the collision, and while formal identification has yet to take place, it has been established that Mr Strickland was the owner of the Peugeot 206.

His family have now been informed and offered all the necessary support and assistance they require.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, who have not already spoken to police, to come forward.

In a statement released today through Police Scotland, Mr Strickland's family said, "Wayne was a much loved and respected father, husband, son and brother.

"A business advisor with West Lothian Council, he was on his way to work from his home in Inverkeithing when the accident happened.

"Wayne was a devoted husband to Bernadette and much adored father. He was one of life's true gentlemen and he will be sadly missed."

West Lothian Council also paid tribute, saying, "Wayne was a very popular and respected colleague and those that worked with him have been left devastated by this tragic news.

“Wayne had worked with West Lothian Council for a number of years and those that had the pleasure to work with him feel very fortunate to have known him as a colleague and friend.

“As a business advisor Wayne worked closely with the local community to help people set up their own companies and his loss will be felt by the wider business community in West Lothian.

“He will be greatly missed and our thoughts and prayers are with Wayne’s family and friends at this very sad time."
