A DALGETY BAY bar and restaurant which unexpectedly shut in March is set to reopen this week with the creation of more than 40 jobs.

There’s a new direction for The Clubhouse, off Harbour Drive, which has been renamed The Compass and will open its doors on Thursday 7th August. Belhaven – which is owned by English brewers Greene King – have been recruiting new staff and refurbishing the building in time for the relaunch.

A spokesman said, “We are pleased to announce that a substantial and exciting refurbishment is being undertaken at The Compass pub and it will reopen on Thursday 7th August.

“The pub will be offering great value to all the family and a friendly service, and with the work that has been done will feel brighter and more welcoming.

“Additionally, we have brought in an experienced manager and what was the small bar area has been changed to a meeting and function room, which we are looking forward to hosting community events and celebrations in.

“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused during this temporary closure but we are excited to welcome old and new faces through the door when we reopen.” There was little warning that the popular bar and brasserie was going to close until signs went up in March saying it was closed for “essential maintenance” Owner Bryan Reid admitted on Facebook days later that The Clubhouse was shut for good.

At the time he told the Press, “It has been a very tough and sad few days. This was as much a disappointment and shock to me as everyone else.“The financial stability of the company collapsed yesterday.

“Due to margins being squeezed so tight with direct overheads and costs the past year, the company could no longer breathe and meet commitments. We were ‘called in’. To dispel any further rumours, there were no other reasons for closure.”
