A ROSYTH drink-driver has been banned from the road and had her car seized after being caught behind the wheel nearly FIVE times over the limit.

Sharon Young, 44, had planned to sleep in her car after downing the alcohol but decided to drive home after becoming concerned about her daughter.

Young, of 61 Sherbrooke Road, admitted that on April 27 at Admiralty Road, she drove after consuming so much alcohol that the proportion of it in her breath was 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.

Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday that Young also had previous driving convictions.

Solicitor Ian Beatson said Young was in a relationship and that “there were difficulties”.

He added: “She had difficult dealing with that, which caused some amount of stress, and is on medication.

“She had dropped her daughter off and purchased alcohol, then drove to Limekilns and consumed that alcohol.

“It was her intention to sleep in the car because she was not intending to return home but she became more and more concerned for her daughter.

“She appreciates she could have contacted individuals within her home.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry imposed a community payback order with 12 months' supervision and 160 hours of unpaid work, to be completed within six months, as a direct alternative to custody.
He also disqualified Young for two years, ordered her to attend the road traffic offenders' groupwork programme, and granted forfeiture of the vehicle.
