DAREDEVIL cycle stunts, It’s a Knockout and live music are just some of the events planned for when gala day returns to the town tomorrow.

The final preparations for the Rosyth Centenary Children’s Gala, which will be held for the first time in 30 years, are taking place for a memorable day in the public park.

After a community survey showed “overwhelming” support to bring back the gala day last year, Rosyth Community Council set the wheels in motion for it to take place as the town celebrates 100 years since it was established as Scotland’s only garden city.

The day will begin at 11am with the gala parade, complete with gala queen Shauna Gartshore, ladies in waiting Naomi Dryburgh and Sophie Yorkston, and page boy Reece Norman.

It will set off from Park Road and proceed to the public park, where It’s a Knockout and tug-of-war competitions, live music, a fairground, inflatables, pony rides and the community market, will take place from 12-6pm.

The Clan, formed four years ago by YouTube sensation Danny Macaskill, will be one of the star attractions on the day as they showcase a selection of their cycle stunts.

They will bring their custom-built stunt rig to the gala and the watching audience can expect to see bikes flying over their heads, large drops and leaping gaps as part of their routine.

Rosyth Community Council chairman and gala committee member Stephen Lynas said: “We’ve put together a huge range of events and attractions filling the whole park and would like to thank all who have supported the gala through grants, sponsorship and donation of raffle prizes.”

In March, councillors at Fife Council’s South West Fife area committee agreed to provide funding of £12,500 towards the cost of £21,000, with chair Bobby Clelland hailing the “civic pride” and “lasting, more cohesive community spirit” it will provide.

Rosyth councillor Mike Shirkie added: “A lot of schools and parents contribute to the Dunfermline gala but by using the centenary as a vehicle, we can show how successful it can be in Rosyth. It is a unique way of bringing the whole community together and gives it another lift.”

Wristbands providing access to all activities taking place can be bought for £3 at the gala tent on Saturday and, for more information, visit facebook.com/Rosythgala.
