A TAXI chief has raised concerns about road safety after two cars spun off a Rosyth roundabout within 24 hours.

John Aitchison, who runs Aitch Taxis, is worried that someone could get seriously hurt after one of his own vehicles was badly damaged.

The roundabout is just north of Rosyth, with exits for Dunfermline, Sky's call centre and the A823 (M).

Mr Aitchison said: "Last Tuesday evening one of my taxis spun off – the car's a write-off – and there was one the following evening too.

"Over the years, there's been a number of cars that have spun off in that corner, I've stopped two or three times to help, but this brought it home to me and it gets you thinking about how often it happens.

"I've lost my no claims bonus but I'm far more concerned about safety at that section and if anything should be done."

Police confirmed there was a report of a car losing control on the roundabout around 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 14.

They said it hit a tree and suffered damage to the front of the vehicle.

Just after 6pm the following day, Wednesday, June 15, there was a report of another car skidding and crashing into a small tree. In each case, the female drivers were not hurt.

Both vehicles were travelling northbound and skidded off the wet road just before the turn-off for Dunfermline.

Mr Aitchison, the chairman of the West Fife Taxi Owners' Association, said: "The lassie driving the taxi got a helluva fright but fortunately she wasn't hurt.

"She said she wasn't going fast and the car just spun, there was no-one else involved.

"But if it happens and there's a big lorry there, someone could have got hurt."

Many will argue there's no such thing as a 'dangerous' road, and put accidents down to driver error, but Mr Aitchison said: "That's often the case but she's worked for me for a while and is not a speeding driver.

"You just wonder what it is. It doesn't seem to be an adverse camber, I don't know if lorries are losing diesel or what it is."

Fife Council previously installed a "high friction grip surface" just off the roundabout, on the approach road to Dunfermline, after a number of crashes.

A spokesperson told the Press: "We're not aware of any issue here but we will check now that it's been brought to our attention."
