A CROATIAN dockyard worker who lives in Rosyth drove SIX TIMES over the limit to avoid a parking penalty.

Sheriff Charles McNair said it appeared that the only reason Krunoslav Vuckovic got behind the wheel was to avoid a parking penalty.

At an earlier court appearance, Vuckovic, of McGregor Road, Rosyth, had admitted driving a vehicle on Bridge Street, Dunfermline on13th August after consuming alcohol where the proportion of alcohol in breath was 130 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 mililitres of breath which exceeded the legal limit of 22 microgrammes.

Appearing for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Vuckovic was told he "had no business" getting into his vehicle.

"You were over six times over the lawful limit and almost four times over the previous lawful limit," said Sheriff McNair. "You were clearly intoxicated when you got into the car and you must have realised you had no business being behind the wheel for any reason.

"You were putting lives at risk by driving,"

Depute Fiscal Kiran Uppal said on the day of the offence, police had received a complaint of a man staggering into a vehicle. Officers stopped Vuckovic in his vehicle and carried out a breath test.

Solicitor Rosni Joshi said a background report identified "cultural differences" that had been identified in particular which was against the background of his alcohol consumption in the night in question.

"He fully accepts this reading is extremely high and that he should, in no way, have been in his vehicle and the explanation is no way an acceptable one," she added.

Sheriff McNair ordered Vuckovic to pay a £1900 fine and banned him from driving for 27 months.
