POLICE are appealing for information after transit van robbers struck again.

At least seven thefts have happened across Fife since the start of October in areas including Rosyth, Steelend, Lochgelly, Newport on Tay, Newburgh, Crail and East Wemyss.  A number of items have been taken, including tools and electrical equipment.

Officers suspect the culprits are using a device or piece of equipment that allows them to overcome the security of a locked vehicle without having to force entry.

Police want van owners to consider putting extra security measures in place and are urged not to leave items of value items in their vans overnight.

Detective Inspector Colin Robson, of Fife CID, said: “There has been a rise in the number of these incidents since the start of October and recognise that this is not just a local issue with similar crimes occurring all over the country.

“It appears from the circumstances that the persons responsible are using some form of device or piece of equipment which is used to unlock the vehicle without the need to force entry.

“We are aware that items of this nature exist and are being put to criminal use so we are working with other Divisions across Police Scotland and associated partners in an effort to prevent these crimes occurring.”
