GET the date in your diary, the Rosyth Gala is back and will take place on Saturday, May 27.

After the success of last year’s centenary event, which saw more than 5,000 people attend the family fun day, preparations are well under way for this summer.

It will take place in Rosyth Public Park and will include pipe bands, W3L Wrestling, games, It’s a Knockout and tug o’ war competitions, a fairground, inflatables, quad biking and pony rides.

The ever-popular community market will run from noon to 5pm and there will also be live music, entertainers, pirates, community group displays and face-painting.

Stephen Lynas, chair of the gala committee, said: “Following on from the success of last year’s event we are really looking forward to an exciting day of celebration and fun for all the community.

“We’ve put together a huge range of events and attractions filling the park and I would like to thank all the volunteers who are working hard to make this happen, as well as those who have supported the gala through grants and donation of children’s raffle prizes.

“We’re keen to encourage local businesses and employers to get involved and would be keen to discuss with them how they can support the gala through sponsorship opportunities.”

Last year’s gala was the first for 30 years and was part of the celebrations to mark 100 years since Rosyth was established as Scotland’s only garden city.

This summer’s event will kick off with the gala parade from Park Road at 11am with the children marching through the town before arriving at the park for the crowning of the Royal gala party – who will be chosen from the four local primary schools.

Tickets are free for Rosyth primary school and pre-school children and include a lunch bag and access to activities.

For those from outwith Rosyth, tickets are available online with event wristbands giving access to all the activities for £3.50 plus a small booking fee.
