A SPRAY painter from Rosyth admitted killing his partner in a head-on crash as they drove to spend at evening at the Enchanted Forest light show in Perthshire.

Brian Hampson, 30, of Queensferry Road, lost control of his Honda Civic and veered across the A9 into the path of a van and the impact caused fatal injuries to Kimberly Robertson, 31.

The driver of the van also sustained multiple injuries which left him in a hospital's high dependency unit for 10 days.

Two children in the car also suffered serious injury.

Days after the crash, Hampson wrote an emotional tribute to Ms Robertson on the Press' Facebook page which read: "Love you so much babe will miss you always! Love of my life always and forever!"

Hampson appeared in the dock at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday and admitted causing the death of his partner by driving carelessly on the A9 near Luncarty, Perthshire, on October 13, 2016.

He admitted losing control of his car and crossing into the opposing carriageway and colliding with a van driven by Gerald Rogers, 70.

Mr Rogers was badly injured as a result of the crash and a seven year-old girl and a five-year-old boy were also injured.

Fiscal depute David Barclay told the court Hampson was taking Ms Robertson and two children to see the Enchanted Forest display in Pitlochry.

"Their ticket was for the 9pm display and they were en route with plenty of time to spare," Mr Barclay said.

"At about 7.25pm witnesses noticed the accused's car lights moving from side to side and that his car appeared to have lost control within its own side of the carriageway.

"Suddenly it crossed into the opposing carriageway at an almost 90 degree angle directly into the path of Gerald Rogers' van.

"Mr Rogers had no time to react and his van struck the nearside of the accused's car with a significant intrusion into the accused's front nearside passenger compartment.

"Both vehicles spun round before coming to a halt and both were badly damaged. The whole incident, from start to finish, was over in a matter of seconds.

"Ambulance personnel attended to Kimberly Robertson. She was unresponsive, had no pulse and there was heavy bleeding from her ears. CPR was carried out for approximately 20 minutes. At around 7.57pm life was pronounced extinct.

"Gerald Rogers suffered multiple cuts and bruises, four broken ribs, a broken sternum, internal bleeding and a cardiac contusion. He spent 10 days in the high dependency unit."

The boy suffered a broken leg and had glass fragments removed from his head. The girl had a fractured skull and needed a blood transfusion after getting numerous shards of glass lodged in her head. She spent five days in hospital.

An accident investigation was carried out and found no defects in either vehicle and ruled out any blame on the part of Mr Rogers or the road or weather conditions.

"In the opinion of the collision investigators, the accused is at fault for this collision as his car has crossed into the opposing lane and collided with the Vauxhall van.

"However, the reason for the loss of control is unknown," Mr Barclay told the court.

Sheriff William Wood banned Hampson from driving on an interim basis and deferred sentence for the preparation of reports.

He told Hampson: "It was a very tragic accident. I do offer the court's condolences for your loss."
