A ROSYTH man who went into local bars carrying a weapon after being “slashed” has been jailed.

Greg Reedy, 32, of Alexander Place, Rosyth, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He previously admitted that on July 16 last year at the Gothenburg Hotel and CJs pool hall, both Queensferry Road, he was in possession of an offensive weapon, an extendable baton.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison previously told the court the incident happened after his client was assaulted at his door by someone claiming to be TV licence inspector.

“He was cut after being struck with something like a knuckle duster. The attacker also dropped the baton and Mr Reedy had picked it up.

"He had then gone by taxi to two bars carrying the baton but was only looking for a friend,” added Mr Morrison.

Reedy had been remanded in custody and when he returned to the dock the court was told a different version of events from the crown.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner said a taxi driver had picked up Reedy from an address in Abel Place, Dunfermline.

He noticed Reedy’s cheek was cut and when he mentioned this and inquired whether he wanted to go to hospital, his passenger responded: “Don’t ask.”

He was taken to Pentland Terrace to speak to a friend and then asked to be taken to the Goth pub. A bar worker saw him come in with a deep cut to his cheek and she thought he was holding a golf club.

After looking around he left and went to CJs pool hall where a staff member saw him with the baton.

Police had been contacted and Reedy was detained in a garden in Woodlands.

He told police: “Self defence. I’d just been f****** slashed."

Sheriff Chris Shead had previously pointed out that Reedy has “an extremely serious record for crimes of violence”.

When he returned to court, Sheriff Kevin Veal pointed out that Reedy had 35 different court cases on his record and a higher number of offences. He jailed him for nine months.
