A MYSTERY creature caught the eye of a driver, causing him to swerve across the road and crash into an oncoming car.

The incident led to Rosyth man Paul Brown appearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

The driver of the other car had to take action to avoid a head-on collision but the back of his vehicle was struck.

Brown, 24, of Admiralty Road, Rosyth, admitted that on August 23, on the B915 road between Woodend and Balmule Farm, he drove a car carelessly, lost control of the vehicle whereby it entered onto the opposite carriageway, causing another driver to take evasive action and collided with that vehicle.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that after the crash, which occurred at 9.30pm, Brown told police: “I was driving along and all of a sudden, something came out of the trees. I couldn’t tell you what it was.

“When it jumped out I was at a corner then I spotted the car in front of me.”

Defence solicitor Alistair Burleigh said his client was still classed a new driver at the time of the accident.

“He says everything happened so quickly. Fortunately, nobody was hurt,” he added.

Sheriff Charles MacNair told Brown: “It’s only by the greatest fortune that nobody was injured and potentially severely injured.”

He fined Brown £360 and endorsed his licence with seven penalty points, which means he will have to re-sit his driving test.
