POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was seen throwing an object that caught fire at a Rosyth takeaway.

The attempted fire-raising took place shortly after midnight on Friday, May 18.

The man threw an object at the shutters of the restaurant on Queensferry Road between 12.10am and 12.25am.

It briefly caught fire before almost immediately extinguishing, which caused minor damage to the shop front.

The suspect is believed to be in his late teens or early twenties, and was wearing a dark hooded top and riding on a silver or grey pedal bike when the incident took place.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Neil McGurk from the Community Investigation Unit said: "Thankfully, this object did not result in the building catching fire, or we would have a far more serious incident to investigate.

"We are, however, treating this matter very seriously and would urge anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the takeaway during the early hours of Friday 18th May to contact police immediately.

"In addition, anyone with information that can help us identify the culprit should also get in touch."

Those with information can contact the Community Investigation Unit via 101 and quote incident number 4050 of the 18th May. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
