A FIRE investigation is to take place after a slice of Rosyth history went up in smoke last night (Tuesday).
Fire crews raced to tackle the blaze at the Royal Sailors Rest at Rosyth Dockyard after the alarm was raised around 8.35pm.
Four fire engines – two each from Dunfermline and Lochgelly – attended and found the roof of the disused building “well ablaze”.
Crews battled for nearly three hours before getting the flames under control around 11.50pm.
However, they continued to remain on site overnight dampening down hot spots.
Two fire engines are still at the scene this morning, with crews stripping back and cutting away affected areas.
The building, at the Castle Road / Ferrytoll Road roundabout, has been empty for several years and no one was injured.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has requested for an investigation into the blaze.
The building was previously a social hub for Royal Navy sailors and their families based at the dockyard. It was later used as the YMCA, Aggie's, a cafe and sandwich bar.
