ROSYTH could get a new museum in time for its Garden City centenary celebrations in 2016 after a developer promised to help deliver the facility.

Millionaire developer Keith Punler of Kapital Assets, which is behind the Hilton Residential development at Camdean, is backing plans for the museum.

It’s believed the semi-permanent museum could cost up to £100,000 but Mr Punler said the firm could help with financial assistance or benefit in kind.

The idea came about after Mr Punler and Denice Purdie, of Kapital Residential, attended the Rosyth Community Council meeting earlier this month on the Fleet Grounds development.

Mr Punler, a former Camdean Primary pupil, told the Press, “We were struck by the enthusiasm.

“They were talking about the new sports centre at the Fleet Grounds and how it could work with the community.

“I found out that 2015 is the centenary of the formation of the Rosyth Garden City Association.

“We felt it would help during this 12-month period to put together a semi-permanent facility and make it available this year so it can be open before next year.

“The community are very good at putting on ad hoc exhibitions so we’re giving them this opportunity.

“We’re hoping to allocate this place for the duration because of the significance of the occasion and so people can see how Rosyth came about.” Mr Punler said the museum would be set up for about 18 months and incorporated into the retail centre at the Hilton Residential development.

He said, “Funding still needs to be finalised – it will be a shell of a building that’s going to need a bit of fitting, but we’re looking at a sum of money or benefit in kind.

“It will sit in the part of the complex that’s under construction right now.

“It would be subject to the receipt of necessary consent but we would be happy to take forward the necessary application for it.

“It’s very early days but what we’re saying is we’re happy to try and see if the community is happy to seize this opportunity and from the response we’ve received it looks like it will be very positive.”
