The venture, which was put forward to Fife Council by residents and the town’s Community Council, will begin on Sunday 26th April in the Parkgate Centre and will be held on the last Sunday of every month until September.

A suggestion put forward to members of the community last year about the idea of Rosyth having a mixed market – which will have arts and crafts as well as food stalls – quickly gathered momentum and after the present members of the community council were elected in December, a series of meetings was held to move the project forward and it has now come to fruition.

Rosyth councillor Mike Shirkie said, "I am delighted that the Rosyth Sunday market is going ahead. The idea was first muted over a year ago and I am pleased that the community council are now taking this forward as a project. We agreed at our last councillor's ward meeting to provide initial funding to get this worthwhile project off the ground. We have the necessary organizational expertise in the community council to make this a success, but of course we need Rosyth folk and West Fifers to turn out and support the venture. I see this as another step of putting Rosyth on the map and making our town a better place to live in."

Interest in acquiring a stall for the market has, say the community council, been “amazing” with four West Fife businesses already booked up to sell their products on the day, including Dunfermline-based ‘The Scottish Tablet Pantry’, who in 2014 were award winners for their traditional Scottish tablet.

Other businesses confirmed to take their place in the inaugural market are Kassells Kitchen, a savoury jam and chutney-making business operated by mother-and-daughter team Janette and Hayley, family-run Cochrane’s Kitchens, who specialise in creating a number of homemade products, including jellies and marmalades, and Earthly Edibles, who provide the tools needed to grow gourmet oyster mushrooms.
