THE much anticipated opening of Rosyth’s new Sainsbury’s store took place last Friday, with the creation of 13 jobs.

The supermarket giant’s convenience store, on Unwin Avenue, forms part of a multi-million pound ‘Hilton Residential’ development which is set to transform the Camdean area of the town.

Sainsbury’s are expected to anchor the project where developer Keith Punler, of Kapital Assets, hopes to create up to 450 homes, a nursery, professional and financial services, food and drink outlets, a hotel, a nursing home and shops at a 12-hectare plot west of Camdean Primary School.

Representatives from Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) joined manager Lorraine Murray to open the store, which will trade from 7am-11pm seven days a week.

She said, “As the new store manager of the Rosyth Admiralty Road Local, I am extremely proud to be opening our new store. Colleagues and I have been looking forward to welcoming our new customers and showcasing the great range of products we have on offer.

“I would like to thank our chosen local charity partner, CHAS, who joined us for the ribbon cutting ceremony. I would also like to extend our thanks to Councillor Lesley Laird, who has given us a great welcome to the community. We hope to continue working closely with CHAS and the rest of the local community.” Cllr Laird, depute leader of Fife Council, said, “We very much welcome Sainsbury’s increasing presence in Fife. Our aim is to make Fife the best place to do business and attracting an organisation of the standing of Sainsbury’s is always very welcome.

“We look forward to them becoming a valued local employer, helping to support local people into work, and continuing to play a strong role in the wider community.” The retailer also confirmed they have completed building work on its new contact centre at Innova Campus for its Sainsbury’s Bank operation. The building, purchased last year, will house around 400 colleagues when it is fully operational next summer.
