Police probe Forth Bridge YouTube prank

POLICE have launched an investigation after a video was posted on the internet appearing to show a group of people climbing on the Forth Bridge.
The video was spotted on the popular website YouTube, which allows people with access to a digital camera to record and broadcast their own clips.
Bosses at Network Rail, the company which owns the bridge, criticised the thrill-seekers and said the stunt was most likely pre-meditated.
David Simpson, route director for Scotland, said, 'It is immediately clear from this video that these individuals have illegally accessed the bridge by trespassing on the track.
'They appear to have prepared in advance to carry out this enormously dangerous, irresponsible act and we have passed the footage to British Transport Police.
'We utterly condemn the content of this video. It demonstrates incredible stupidity and ignorance.'
A spokesman for Network Rail said the trespassers could have potentially damaged scaffolding on the side of the bridge, risking the lives of workmen.
He added that it was likely the video was recorded early in the morning and they probably walked along the rail line from either side of the bridge.
A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police confirmed that the investigation was ongoing.
