400 new homes planned for Inverkeithing farm land

A MAJOR housing development is being planned for agricultural land to the east of Inverkeithing.
Alfred Stewart Properties, set up by the late local developer, wants to build 400 homes on the greenfield Spencerfield site in a partnership with the Hutcheson family who own the land.
ASP is asking the council to adopt the proposals within the local plan which is being currently produced.
The developer is promising that money made from the project would be put back into the community with the refurbishment of social housing in the nearby Fraser Avenue and put towards other local initiatives.
However, the scheme is still in the very early stages with no concrete proposals drawn up.
Consultations with the local people and politicians would take place before any masterplan was designed.
A spokesman for ASP, Roano Pierotti, said, 'This is a bold plan for Inverkeithing Bay and it sits both at the heart of Fife Council"s ambitions for the area and within ASP"s strategy of regenerating local communities in West Fife.
'We feel our plans will not only help meet the need for new housing and other amenities for Inverkeithing, it will also give us the resources to regenerate existing homes in the area.
'We have set up a joint venture with the land owners at Spencerfield to take this project forward should we be successful in getting planning consent.
'We are confident that our proposals will enhance the area and retain the distinction between Inverkeithing and other surrounding communities in West Fife.'
Archie McQueen, secretary of Inverkeithing Community Council, said, 'My first reaction was "Oh no". I couldn"t believe they would want to build there but then again it would kill off the plans for the quarry site which everybody was totally against.'

more of the beauty wanted to be taken from fife yet again, i have seen so much gone since i came here 6 years now. i used to go to Tesco and look back over the forth, and dunfermline, but now i need to find an open area to get the views.
with the slow down in the housing market, surely this has to be taken into account as well.
Gorden we need u.

Great! Another step in the councils plans to join Rosyth, Dunfermline, Dalgety Bay, Inverkeithing and Crossgates into one mass urban sprawl takes shape.
Soon they can start working West annexing Cairneyhill, Crossford etc

Another 400 homes. Are the High School and new local Primary school going to be able to handle the influx of pupils?
I have to say im a little disappointed that this will no doubt get the green light. The Farmer is obviously more interested in the money.Sure the housing development of the quarry area and the reclaimed land by the old paper mill has not gone ahead........yet!
Why not have an outdoor, out of bounds centre down there incorporating the woods, the quarry, the pool in the quarry and inverkeithing bay-Kayaking,canoing,rock climbing, abseiling, nature trails, ariel walkways, cafe,a centre like the one in Lochore Meadows or Townhill.

I think this is wonderful news... this will no doubt boost the local economy whilst providing affordable housing which is in such short supply causing huge problems for the young and low paid.

sorry George but do you really think it will be local builders, joiners etc who will be employed?
Judging by the quarry planning proposals the majority of these houses will NOT be affordable housing.Leaving us locals with no way of affording these homes and pushing us out of area. This will not boost local economy as George so niaively puts it.This will only boost the councils pockets.

I agrre with you mark how can george think that this plan is going to be good for Inverkeirhting, apart from there being no school big enough to support the extra children, you are also talking about 800+ people that need a doctors surgery (you think its bad trying to get an appointment at the moment then wait till then) if people want to invest then do so by supporting the community not put more strains on it

Exactly mandy,
Perfect example of local community losing out is the new flats in Barr Crescent. How many locals are employed there? in any capacity? Very few. There are vans and firms from Glenrothes,Lochgelly,Falkirk etc surely there are local joiners, finishers, plasterers, brickies, electricians, plummers from Inverkeithing area that would bend over backwards for the work and benefitting their own community.

There is no way that this will benefit the town and I doubt it will make any differnece to the development of Fraser Avenue. This is about a farmer and greed. Where is all the sxtra traffic going to go as the only available access in right past the School. What about the landscape that will be totally changed preventing children playing and people walking dogs. If there are not enough Schools for DEX where are all these chillren going to go.

Mr. Alfred Stewart MBE, was a paranoid chizo when he was alive and now that he is 6 feet under he is still harrassing the people of Dunfermline. The new Andrew Carnegie , he is certainly not.\

This development is driven by only one thing money it will not benefit anyone but the developers. They will get planning then sell it on to the highest bidder so do not be duped by the promise of money being ploughed into inverkeithing community. I suggest anyone who is against the proposal to contact spencerfield action group or local councillors to voice thier opinions. Let's prevent another part of Fife's greenbelt disappearing; there are brownfield sites that are falling into dereliction that could be used to ease future "affordable" housing for the locals in thier immediate area.

I think the council is forgeting the one massive problem in Inverkeithing - Caldwells Papermill. Maybe they haven't forgot just choose to ignore! A development like haymarket where they kept the old stack as a feature! and converted into flats. Have any of you seen the scale of the thing! and the amount of land there!!!! No one cares about the scrap works, that will move in time. Lets get building now... Also the old primary school up for sale for about a year now no takers?...
