Devilla Forest
BIG-CAT hunters are to visit West Fife next month to pounce on evidence of large felines in the area which have terrified witnesses.
A group from Big Cats in Britain (BCIB), including founder Mark Fraser, will head north after hearing about repeated sightings in Devilla Forest, near Kincardine.
There were around eight sightings of big cats in West Fife last year, ranging from pumas to lynx.
Bob Wallace, BCIB Fife representative, will join Mark and others in two overnight vigils in the hope of capturing the beast on camera.
He said, "Mark is convinced there's something in there - the area is well covered with plenty of food and has several water sources so it's an ideal place.
"It's worth a look because of the number of reported sightings already and we'll be looking to interview witnesses."
The latest reported sighting was in November when a man claimed to have been followed by two pairs of green eyes to his car at the forest entrance on the A985 Rosyth to Kincardine road.
The man - a regular dog-walker - said he would never set foot in the woods after dark again.
In October the Press reported the story of two Valleyfield men, James McGarry and Alan Yates, who claim they saw a large black cat while out hunting rabbits in a field at Culross not far from the forest.
Other encounters in West Fife have included a man claiming to have come face-to-face with a Puma-like creature sat upon a hay bale at the ash lagoons in Low Valleyfield and another man seeing a large black cat in Townhill while out with his daughter.
The investigation will take place on the weekend of 6-7th February.
If you have any information regarding sightings in the area contact Bob Wallace on 07936 719909 at wallace_robert@yahoo.co.uk.

I have been interested in alien big cats for a while and am keen to find out if there is something around here. They can cover quite a distance in their territories, so it can quite feasibly be the same cat that was seen at Devilla and Culross. I walk my dog often in Valleyfield woods and have once or twice felt like something was watching me and my dog got agitated, was it the cat? Who knows, but will continue to watch this story with great interest.

You know for a fact that there are no Big Cats out there do you.
Black foxes, or albino ones for that mater do not stand 75-90cm at sholder height, and between 90-150cm in length, they also don't have a long smooth tail sweeping in an 's' shape,as sighted by several witneses. Are you telling all the witnesses I have spoken to over the past 6 months were wrong, and that what they actully saw were foxes? you are entitled to your oppinion, bu****hink they would disagree with you on that one.

Kay hi, my name is Bob Wallace, I am the Fife representative for the Big Cats in Britain group, and as you rightly say, big cats can cover a vast area(30-40 miles in one night) and think nothing of it, going on the number of sightings that have been reported to myself, and the group over the past few months we feel that there is cat activity in this area, and hopefully be able to prove it one day, as you say, who knows what is watching you when you are in the woods. If I can be of any assistance to you, or you would like more information, don't hesitate to get in touch, my contact details are in the article above.

Bob, Thanks for confirming my point that big cats can cover a wide area in one night, I just could not remember the distance. I have jotted down your contact details and have also started carrying my mobile phone when I am out walking my dog as it has a rather good camera on it (just in case) and will definately contact you if I see anything. I wish you and Mark Fraser luck in your vigil at Devilla and hope you can finally get definative proof of something out there.

I don't think anyone can say for sure that there are or are not any big cats in the area. Personally I don't see why there can't be.I have been to Devilla many times and the place is massive. There is plenty of food and water so why not? I hope this turns something up

I was runnung up The Devilla Forest Last week with 2 friends and my 2 springer spaniels when Tilly my 20 month old springer got really spooked and frightened. She was runnung along in front as usual, searching for birds or rabbits when she stopped staring into the trees and barking very frightened. This is very unusual for her as we are up the forest everyday. I don't know what she saw but it certainly scared her.

It may be worth you guys talking to the Police College in Kincardine, Tulliallen. I have heard from a few folks that they have seen things there that looked a bit like big cats. The college used to do a lot of training in the woods, including runs through the small trails.
I am actually kicking myself too, I found some quite large paw prints a few years back and never even thought to take a picture, I just assumed big dog. You got me wondering now...

Hi Alex, the weekend had to be posponed due to the idiots with guns and dogs 'hunting' for the cats in the woods. It will take place at a later date, but this time it will not be mentioned in the press until after we have been in and carried out our investigations. Any findings, good or bad, will be reported through the Dunfermline Press.
There will also be a reporter from the press joining us, so you will hear in due course.
Bob Wallace.
