A FORMER Duloch Park Tesco worker has won a payout from the supermarket giant after her hand was crushed at the store four years ago.
Shona Foreman (35, pictured) was left in agony after her hand got caught between two metal delivery cages.
But despite doctors diagnosing her with soft tissue and nerve damage, which she still takes medication for to combat the pain, she was issued with a written warning for being off sick after returning to work a week later.
Last month she received compensation from Tesco in an out-of-court settlement.
Reflecting on the incident, Shona (35), who stays in Alloa, said, "There was a delivery coming and I pulled in to one side to let colleagues past who were coming in.
"There wasn't a lot of room and as one of the lads went past me he knocked my cage which meant my hand was caught between the two cages. It was so painful."
The mum-of-one quit her role as a team manager after the "shocking" way she claims she was treated, which culminated with the written warning for her time off recovering from the injury.
She added, "I had my welcome back meeting a couple of days after I returned to work.
"Four weeks down the line I was called in by my manager and she handed me a written warning for being off.
"I couldn't believe the way I was being treated after 12 years working for the company."
Tesco accepted liability for the incident after Shona took legal advice.
They finally paid out just prior to a court case due in January this year after Shona, now employed at BSkyB in Livingston, accepted an out-of-court settlement.
A spokesperson for Tesco said, "We take the safety of our employees and customers very seriously.
"We are pleased a settlement has been reached."
