Cops target youths using Rosyth school as drinking den
YOUTHS using the grounds of St John's Primary School as a "drinking den" are to be targeted by police.
The issue was one of three concerns raised by Rosyth residents who attended a Fife police "engagement' meeting last month at Parkgate Community Centre.
A total of 18 members of the public attended the meeting, highlighting seven issues they thought police should be tackling.
This was whittled down to three and included parking and safety issues at Park Road and Queensferry Road.
At Tuesday's meeting of Rosyth community council, chairman Mike Shirkie said, "One of the worrying signs at St John's was a mixture of things - some people were using the area as a drinking den.
"There was also evidence of people buying drink for young people and evidence St John's itself was being breached."
The meeting heard that youths had scaled the roof before dangling off gutters and dropping down into the school's quadrangle to drink.
He added, "(Police) find a lot of broken bottles as evidence of that and will keep an eye on it."
Anti-social behaviour by youths in nearby Duffy Place will also be targeted by police.
The meeting heard that parking problems along Park Road were mainly outside the Good News supermarket.
The safety issues along Queensferry Road focused on issues surrounding Elder Lea guest house.
Fife police launched the engagement meetings across the Kingdom in January.
It sees police community teams providing updates on action taken against three priorities agreed by the public at the previous meeting.
Frances Fraser, headteacher at St John's, told the Press she "welcomed any move that increases safety and protects the building after hours."

Report commentThe Police should also try to control the situation in Sherbrooke Road,,the large gangs of youths that constantly hang around the Spar shop and cause so much damaged is beyond tolerance. This happens evry single night of the week,,do their parents not care...they all live locally,,would they like it happenning on their doorstep,,,i think not,,

Report commentWhat is it with you busybodies? Stop sticking your nose in and stop blaming parents. The fact is there is nothing in boring old Rosyth for youth to do, so they drink..... just like most of the adults in the place.
I suggest you get a life!

Report commentRosyth is 10 miles away from the capital city of Scotland. Dunfermline also has ample amenites. This attitude of I'm bored so lets get drunk and make peoples life a misery is typical of the chav generation. No imagination and no morals. Morons.

Report commentTo Ex residento I assume you dont have children yourself and secondly you dont have children attending St Johns. I do and I am appalled at the amount of litter/broken glass etc these uneducated mindless thugs leave behind in my child's playground. I agree with Colin there is plenty to do and what do you know you can post a reply online maybe try googling things to do in the area rather than using my child's school playground as your drinking and God knows what else den!

Report commentThe above comment by Ex Residento is typical. But what are the Police going to do when they catch them - take them back to mummy to be told not to do it again?
Our justice system is a joke and no-matter how many times we complain about lack of police action, when they do eventually get round to doing something, the courts just let the little wasters off scott free!
Fine and if necessary jail the parents. That would sort them out!!!

Report commentThe council could always place some of those devices that create a high pitched noise in order to prevent people from hanging round there. They make like a really high pitched whining noise and really put people off being near it. They could have it set to come on at night times when kids arent at school. i know they have done this in other places to stop people hanging round there and has been quite effective

I am now living in Australia and have dome for many years now but I read the Pres on line and feel very sad at the decline of the places I lived by.

Report commentI agree that the problem at the Spar in Sherbrooke road needs to be sorted. I have had my property damaged on several occassions because of these idiots. The surrounding area is a disgrace and the council and the spar need to do something about it.
