Dock plunge vehicle was stolen from Forth Road Bridge

A MAN who plunged into Methil Docks yesterday (Wednesday) was driving a vehicle stolen from workers on the Forth Road Bridge.

The body of 44-year-old Kevin Purves was recovered from a yellow pick-up truck that was taken earlier that day.

Officers had been alerted to the presence of the vehicle on South Road, Methil, shortly before it entered the water at dock three.

Superintendent John Pow said, "Central Scotland Police, who have assisted in the recovery of the man's body and the vehicle, have also been invited to review the circumstances of police involvement prior to the vehicle entering the water.

"Witnesses have identified themselves to the police in relation to this enquiry and I would issue a further appeal for people to come forward that may assist us."

The truck was eventually recovered in the early hours of this morning.

A spokesman for FETA said, "I can confirm that we had a vehicle stolen yesterday afternoon. I can't say much more at the moment because the matter is being investigated by Fife Police."

Why do you feel so strongly that the police need to be investigated?

Why should the police be investigated?

At the end of the day if he hadn't been in a STOLEN van & hadn't run from the police he'd still be alive!

One less TWOCer on the road!

That was a strange comment about the police being investigated in this case! Did a policeman advise this man to steal the vehicle? Another tragic case but nobodys fault as we know of as yet, but his own!

As a former police officer I cannot see how a judgement can be made against the police in this instance with the limited information available!
