POLICE and the fire service were called out to a house fire at 18 Allan Crescent in Dunfermline on Monday night.

Fife Fire and Rescue received "several calls" around 8.30pm about the fire at the ground floor flat, which police said was "well ablaze".

As it formed part of a block of four flats, the rest of the building was evacuated.

Three appliances from Dunfermline and one from Lochgelly attended.

Three breathing apparatus teams thoroughly searched the ground and first floor flat and it was established that nobody was trapped or injured.

The fire was put out around 10.30pm and one appliance was in attendance all night to monitor the premises.

Police say initial enquiries suggest the fire is suspicious.

Detective Sergeant Paul Dick of Crime Management, who is currently leading the investigation, said, "Subsequent enquiry suggests that this fire may have been set deliberately and therefore I would ask that any person who saw any suspicious activity in this area or who may know anything about the fire contact us on 0845 600 5702 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where calls can be treated anonymously."
