Alhambra names its own Oscar winners

FORGET the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, the Alhambra has held its own version of the Oscars with more than 2000 customers taking part in an online survey to choose the best performances seen at the theatre.
Despite selling out three shows Frankie Boyle was an also-ran in the best comedian category with Tim Minchin coming out as winner ahead of Jason Manford.
Best rock gig was won by Biffy Clyro, the best professional production was 'Blood Brothers' and there was even an honour for Pars legend Jim Leishman for his pantomime role.
The best actor in a professional production was Sean Jones as 'Mickey' in 'Blood Brothers' and the best actress was Lyn Paul, as 'Mrs Johnstone' in the same show.
Theatre-goers decided the best concert was The Royal Dunfermline Command Performance, ahead of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
The best amateur production was 'Beauty and the Beast', by Limelight Productions.
The best amateur leading role actor was Bobby Mitchell as 'Judas' in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and the best actress in an amateur leading role was Vicky Robertson as 'Dorothy' in 'The Wizard of Oz'.
The best actress in an amateur supporting role was Jacqueline Hannan as 'Wicked Witch of the West' in 'The Wizard of Oz'.
The best actor in a supporting role was Graeme Melvin as 'Lumiere' in 'Beauty and the Beast', ahead of Big Leish in 'Cinderella'.
The best song in an amateur production was 'Be Our Guest' in 'Beauty and the Beast', by Limelight.
Claire Fletcher, Alhambra marketing manager, said, "We've bought some mini versions of the Oscar statues and we'll be presenting them in the near future.
"We were delighted with the huge response to the survey which helps us know better what the public want to see at the theatre."
The big winner in the real Oscars was 'The King's Speech' and there will be a special screening on Sunday 13th March at the Alhambra where King George VI once spoke during a visit to Dunfermline.
