ROSYTH residents are to be consulted on plans for an ambitious £2million revamp and redesign of the town centre.

Ideas and concepts have been worked up over the past six months and the South West Fife area committee will agree the best way to start a public discussion.

Councillor Douglas Chapman, who was instrumental in getting funding for the plan, said, "This is a very exciting time for Rosyth and through this plan we have the opportunity to look carefully at our town and begin to make serious improvements to the layout, its facilities and generate a real sense of pride in Rosyth.

"Work is already underway on improving Camdean Community Centre, we have another £70,000 coming in to improve the town park and Parkgate Centre also is in line for substantial investment this year.

"But we need to be even more ambitious going forward and this plan serves as a starting point of what could be done.

"What we need now are the ideas and views of the residents to see what they can add to the plan to improve their town and make the plan their own."

He added, "The plan suggests that some £2million might be needed to deliver everything that it outlines and that seems to be a lot of money to find in the current climate.

"While we may not find £2million in one lump sum, I am confident that we can find the investment required to implement significant improvements over a planned period of time."

Despite the looming elections, councillors from different parties are working together for the good of Rosyth on this issue.

Councillor Pat Callaghan said, "We're speaking with one mind on this - which is probably a first! - but we're confident we have an acceptable plan to take forward.

"We're now going to speak to the people of Rosyth and we're keen to get positive feedback.

"It's a win-win for the town. We're trying to do it tastefully, on a phased basis of five to 10 years, and want a town park worthy of the name and improvements in the Palace area.

"There is a lot we have in mind but now we need the views of the people."
