Rosyth set for £2million revamp
ROSYTH residents are to be consulted on plans for an ambitious £2million revamp and redesign of the town centre.
Ideas and concepts have been worked up over the past six months and the South West Fife area committee will agree the best way to start a public discussion.
Councillor Douglas Chapman, who was instrumental in getting funding for the plan, said, "This is a very exciting time for Rosyth and through this plan we have the opportunity to look carefully at our town and begin to make serious improvements to the layout, its facilities and generate a real sense of pride in Rosyth.
"Work is already underway on improving Camdean Community Centre, we have another £70,000 coming in to improve the town park and Parkgate Centre also is in line for substantial investment this year.
"But we need to be even more ambitious going forward and this plan serves as a starting point of what could be done.
"What we need now are the ideas and views of the residents to see what they can add to the plan to improve their town and make the plan their own."
He added, "The plan suggests that some £2million might be needed to deliver everything that it outlines and that seems to be a lot of money to find in the current climate.
"While we may not find £2million in one lump sum, I am confident that we can find the investment required to implement significant improvements over a planned period of time."
Despite the looming elections, councillors from different parties are working together for the good of Rosyth on this issue.
Councillor Pat Callaghan said, "We're speaking with one mind on this - which is probably a first! - but we're confident we have an acceptable plan to take forward.
"We're now going to speak to the people of Rosyth and we're keen to get positive feedback.
"It's a win-win for the town. We're trying to do it tastefully, on a phased basis of five to 10 years, and want a town park worthy of the name and improvements in the Palace area.
"There is a lot we have in mind but now we need the views of the people."

Report commentGood Stuff. I'm no expert on this but I've always found the high street quite dark, particularly in winter. Maybe some sort of paint job married with other light enhancing artefacts. I'd hope people would be positive about this. £2million is a fair sum if it's spent properly.

Report commentWell for a start you could enhance the Palace area. Perhaps getting local business to spruce up shop fronts etc. The Palace Cafe has seen better days, can't we do something about that , a nice paint job does wonders.

Report commentI can think of thousands of better ideas to spend £2million on than a town where it would not be appreciated and the local yobs would ruin within minutes of being completed.
Get real the only thing to do with parts of Rosyth is to demolish.
As for the Palace Cafe, leave it alone, there is nothing wrong with it.

Report commentI agree with Colin, Get some Full spectrum bulbs in the street lamps and the place will be alot better lit, Making it safer all round. Other than that as everyone has said already, Trying to make Rosyth look better is pointless, Put the money into the community centres/projects.

Report commentWhy does a suburb of Dunfermline need £2 Million spent on it? It would cost half that to knock the suburb down and start again.

Report commentAs a Rosyth resident and local architect I feel this would be a superb boost to a town that has clearly been neglected for many years. I agree that the Palace should be improved and a quality children's play area installed in the park.

Report commentWhy don't Jan the man and Not Happy Jan get together and have a good old moan about everything, that's all they seem to do anyway. Leave Rosyth alone and let the residents decide what to do with the money. Go bother people in Limekilns and Inverkeithing for a change.

Report commentCommunity involvement is great; getting people to buy into these proposals from the outset will help to ensure that people will take ownership long after they're complete.
